HORSE, DONKEY, OR MULE? Which one is right for me?
If you don't know the differences in these wonderful equines, you are missing out! Did you know that Donkeys make great pets and family or property protectors? They will protect your family, other livestock such as sheep or goats, and your home just like a guard dog with a few extra bonuses. Donkeys are extremely affectionate and great pets for the kids to play with and ride - can't usually ride the family guard dog! How about having one pull you around in a cart (called driving)? Sound fun? It sure is!! Donkeys are great, not to mention extremely adorable, and come in many sizes and colors.
Now mules on the other hand are a little different than a donkey or a horse - in fact they are litterally a mix of both! Did you know that a mule is actually half donkey and half horse? They are sterril and cannot have babies of their own. Mules have the same natural protection instincts and physical stamina as the sure-footed donkey but the glorious ridability of the horse. What a great mix! This is why mules are so popular for trail rides, packing, and heavy load driving. Mules are very curious and are very tollerable to many different things - including new equine owners. For example, new equine owners may not know all the "rules" about equine handling and a good mule may be more forgiving than a horse to mistakes or lack of knowledge. Mules also come in various sizes and colors.
